Kelly Wakasa was born on November 27, 1999, in Hillsborough, California. Growing up in a family with Hispanic roots, he was raised alongside two older brothers, including Kasey Wakasa, a former professional soccer player for Phoenix Rising FC, and a younger sister. Kelly keeps his parents’ names private, focusing instead on his siblings in his content. As a kid, he was a talented soccer player, even making the U.S. national youth team, but he later fell in love with skateboarding. He attended Burlingame High School and briefly studied at the University of Arizona in 2020 before dropping out in 2021 to pursue content creation full-time. Kelly’s early passion for photography, videography, and sports shaped his creative path, inspired by YouTubers like Casey Neistat.

Rise to Fame

Kelly started his YouTube channel, “Kelly Wakasa,” on November 20, 2013, but didn’t post regularly until April 2014 with “Sidewalk Surfing-A Skateboarding Documentary.” His skateboarding videos gained traction, and by 2017, he shifted to lifestyle vlogs, travel content, and challenges.
