Biography
Early Life and Background
Thomas Chance Morris, known as Sodapoppin, was born on February 15, 1994, in Austin, Texas. Growing up in a large family as the youngest of eight siblings, Chance was surrounded by a lively household with parents who supported his interests, though their names are kept private. He discovered gaming early, starting with Pokémon and World of Warcraft (WoW) in 2004 at age 10. A shy kid, he found confidence online, creating content under the name Sodapoppin, inspired by a soda-drinking character from a prank call. Chance attended a local high school but didn’t pursue college, dropping out to focus on streaming full-time by 2012. His early love for WoW and knack for entertaining laid the groundwork for his career.
Rise to Fame
Chance launched his YouTube channel, “Sodapoppin,” on July 14, 2008, but began posting regularly in 2012 with World of Warcraft gameplay clips. He started streaming on Twitch in 2011, gaining traction with WoW content, particularly as a Rogue in Cataclysm. His 2013 video “Sodapoppin – WoW – Rogue PvP – 5.4” exploded, showcasing his skill and humor. By 2017, his chaotic streams of Overwatch, Fortnite, and variety games like Getting Over It drew massive audiences. A pivotal moment came in 2018 with his VRChat streams, boosting his YouTube presence. His Instagram (@sodapoppintv) and TikTok grew with funny clips, and his move to co-own One True King (OTK) in 2020 solidified his status as a streaming pioneer.
